we had a great day at niamh Davis studio where she had a great valentine celebration. her studio overlooks the river liffey . it was warm and cosy.
lots of other artists and crafters were showing and selling their wares.

My name is Ian O'Hara and I am an American guest blogger who was asked to share my take on Lucy's Lounge. As I recently was introduced to the city of Dublin, my Irish nescience ended up finding more than just what a few Euros could buy.

Wandering around like an unskilled hunter on the bloated brick streets of Dublin, curiosity and trepidation swirled inside of me like watercolour paints and I happened upon Lucy's Lounge in vagabond style. The blush pink diamond shining on Fownes street presented open arms of warm knick knacks and smiles inflated only by kindness.

Hushed away in the basement of a three story building, I discovered for myself the fantastical world of beautiful clutter, saccharin in colour, vibrant in life. It reminded me of every childhood fable pieced into realism through crayon translations. Yo-Yo's in mossy greens and British reds, elderly suitcases living past their passed adventures, hand-me-downs from every 20th century decade, and pleasantly broken wedding gowns.

Striking a match of conversation with the shop owner Lucy, the string of welcoming banter evolved into an invitation to the country home of her and her salt and pepper bearded husband Rory, who supported her invitation gleefully. I was sweetly taken as a new found friend, ostensibly portraying the quiet qualities of a lost dog: frightened and alone in an unfamiliar place.

Lucy's Lounge produces their own products to sell, adding drops of love and creativity to previously unloved items. Friends of the store, prolific, crafty artists, contribute their own works to be sold in the store as well. Hand bags, tutus in pastels and egg whites, jewelery, hats, you name it. I am amazed by their world. A rabbit hole of surprises adorned with bewitching treasures of any kind.

Their country home is an extension of their gifted hands, furthering my foreign interest of their second-hand romances. The workshop is a dream machine. Lucy tells me it has never been seen by the public eye and I wonder why I have become a special customer, to be allowed in on this secret. But I am thankful, nonetheless. I am thankful and taken by the cloistral compassion I found in Dublin. I only wish every person could experience their philanthropic cheer as I was so privileged to have tasted.

what a lovely summer we had.
it also was a busy one at Lucy's.
firstly we expanded upstairs which has being a great success.
then we had stalls at various locations around the country.
we did an art project for redress.
and the cherry on the cake was our few days in London.

so much has happened in the last few months.

any i have snuck off to face book.

so i'm here to give you an update on happenings at lucy's.

i moved to the ground floor and moved back downstairs again.

in june tia left the the ground floor shop.

i started trading there after a break of 5 years.

however i much prefered the basement.

so along came emma and we are sharing the ground floor and she works there

while i work in the basement.

i have a stall at the wexford market.
every friday i go to the bullring in the heart of wexford to sell my wares.
its great and everyone is so lovely.
this is one of my best and favorite customers.
and yes she did buy this outfit.

i gave him first place he deserved it.

last week i visited Berlin for a few days.
i loved it.
here are a few snaps.
my tips for Berlin is do your research before hand.
its a very big city and sometimes you have to search for things.
i didn't find any good vintage shops until i was due to go home
my train left at 12 and i found the best shop at 11.40.
why does that happen?
so at 12.40 i was running for my train praying i wouldn't miss the plane.
i didn't.
the shop is humana a charity shop its massive.

PS. please excuse, some photos just won't go the way they should.
i tried 5 times to correct to no avail.
i am close to tears now so i just have to leave them.
bloody computers!!!!!

today i had a great chat with Claire Garvey.
an Irish designer who trades in temple bar.
i got some fabulous insights into her life and time as a clothes connoisseur.
and what a journey!
Claire started designing at 6 she sent designs to
Mary quant.
she studied fashion in ncad in Dublin.
from their she went on a 2 year whirlwind adventure in Moscow.

claire is a real talent and her designs has stood the test of time.

Claire sold in powerscourt design centre when it was full of young Irish designers.

10 years ago she opened her shop in cows lane.

Claire's outfits are all one off and are bought for special occasions.

her designs aren't planned out. they evolve on the loyal mannequin.
which has being with her since she started.

inspiration can come from sea shells, discarded rubbish or a rose petal.

i thought i would introduce you to some of my neighbours in temple bar.
this is Liam he owns the local comic shop.
you can swap and buy all sorts new and old comics and graphic novels.

it was my first ever location. back in the day it had no windows though.
Liam has a great love for comics and although he hasn't read all he has in the shop , he definitely wants to!
he gets new stock every day . the favorite comic is x men.

rules for me are definitely not to be obeyed. i hate rules and always do my own thing. i have wondered where this came from. i got a clue when i saw my uncle georgie in this video that was made about the liberties, an old area of dublin where i was reared. i grew up in an extended family with my 2 uncles, my nanny and my parents. anyhow i hope he gives you a laugh. he's the old man with the cap at the end.

i have a very bad enemy it has been at my back all my life.
i have decided to out them.

i was in wexford last week and in a village called saltmills
lives one of my hero's in life
his name is Sean Finn.
he collects all the items in these photos.
anything steam driven or from steel.
he has about an acre of land full of what looks like junk.
to him are gems.
i always visit his place every time i go there.
i never had the nerve to talk to him
but that day i did and what a sweet heart he is.
its a wonderland.
people like him are true individuals.
they are few and far between they should be treasured.

while the gods of the Internet are sleeping I'm
doing a little blogging. for the past week I've had no Internet.
and for no reason it has come back.
so hello everyone.
i am showing a few photos of me in new outfits
winter style as its got so cold here.

i bought this hat on etsy last week.
hand and homemade.
only the best will do.

an old outfit in a new way.
i bought this dress in Zara during the summer.
i love the color.

i bought the top in a shop called circus in Dublin
the skirt is from kilkenny design it has e99.99 on the tag
but was only e20.00 at Lucy's.

i had to show off these shoes 2 sizes too big but who cares
a flea market find.
only e 20.00
they have a red sheen in the sun.

i loved it.

the electric picnic 09

the electric picnic is a large music and art festival in Ireland.
its on every first weekend in September.
this year i was on the guest list.
it is as nice to say 'guest list' as it is to be on it.
i suppose most of the enjoyment of being on a guest
list is telling everyone about it.
i didn't go for the weekend just for a day, on Sunday, and i really enjoyed myself
despite the usual downpours that accompanies the outdoor events
in Ireland.

oh my god is it really that long since I've being here.
I'm sorry for not leaving a note to tell you what was going on.
I'm back.
as you can see I'm not very reliable.
nothing was going on. i was in need of a holiday from blogging.
blogging is a funny thing.
for me i enjoy writing on here but some times i say who is interested in this,
am i being a self obsessed taking photos of myself and putting them on the world wide web.
so i had to take a break.

well it was inevitable.

on Thursday a customer, Toni came to the shop.

she gave me a bag.

'its a gift for you' she said 'from my mam'

lo and behold inside was my next few outfits.

i couldn't believe it!

so here i am in my 'Egyptian trader outfit'.

i love it and the spirit in which it was given.

so I'm back to 2 new outfits a week.

i didn't go out much this week for some reason.

however the saying quality not quantity applies.

i was invited to an evening of entertainment.

at 'la cat salons'

by the vivacious miss Tara.

it was a great night.

held in a building with many artists studio, the venue itself was inspiring.

the entertainment was uplifting.

comedy, drama, music, spoken word as well as conversations

with long lost friends.

i really do urge you to go to the next event it would be such a sin to miss it.

this is the tourist/artistic/entertainment area of Dublin.

when i first had a shop here 25 years ago it was to be a bus station.

however due to small business and artists converging on the area the plan was changed.

now its a thriving place that i love.

i walked the length of it today from the craft market to my shop.

popping into gallerys and the food market.

meeting fellow traders on the way.

the atmosphere in temple bar is of fun, tolerance and camaraderie.
